Booking a long-distance bus ticket: your options

You would like to book a trip on a long-distance bus knowing that online tickets are particularly cheap? However, you have never booked an online ticket for an intercity bus trip before and you are a little uncertain?

Hereafter we you will find several options for booking an intercity bus trip ticket:

Book tickets online

The fastest, cheapest and easiest way to book a ticket is the online booking service. On our comparison portal busradar.com, for instance, you can do this right away when your search result is displayed. Just click on the button “book now” and you will be automatically redirected to the relevant long-distance bus provider, where you can purchase your bus ticket online. The payment will be done most of the times by credit card or Paypal. Sometimes DIRECTeBanking is possible as well.

Book tickets over the phone or at a travel agency

Most of the times you also have the option to book a long-distance bus ticket via telephone. Moreover you can receive a ticket on specified sales outlets. This is particularly the case for small-sized providers who do not offer an online service yet. Your ticket will be reserved by phone, the payment will be done on the bus directly. The service hotline will be found on the website of the respective bus company. Booking a long-distance bus ticket by telephone is quite beneficial as well, although there are handling fees being charged in some cases.

The sales outlets are located, mostly in form of Touristik-Points, travel agencies or internet cafés, close to central omnibus stations, train stations or in the city center. However, it is possible that due to handling and service fees the price of a long-distance bus ticket is a bit more expensive buying your ticket that way. Usually there is a surcharge of 3 – 5 EURO per ticket.

Buy tickets directly from the bus driver

If you decide to travel spontaneously, you can purchase your ticket from the bus driver paying the standard price, provided that there are free seats left. However, please note that most of the times the standard price is considerably more expensive than the online budget prices. Additionally pre-booked tickets are always prioritized. In order to buy your ticket spontaneously you should be at least 15 -20 minutes at the bus stop before departure, since it is subject to availability.

Piece of advice: Have your ID card always ready to hand, even if it is not mentioned by the long-distance bus provider.
